About me

I am Sabrina Krei, a Game Art and Design student at HBK Essen. My passion lies in combining games and nature. From digital illustrations and character design to developing my own game prototypes.

I am particularly interested in serious games, which allow important topics such as the protection of animals, biodiversity and habitats to be creatively conveyed.

My path

Studied Game Art and Design

HBK Essen | since 2024

During my studies I deal with game design, 2D and 3D art, concept art and the development of my own game prototypes. My particular interest lies in games that, in addition to entertainment, also impart knowledge or address social issues.

Media designer

Through my training and several years of professional experience as a media designer, I was able to acquire extensive knowledge in graphic design, layout, web design and visual communication. These experiences are particularly helpful to me today in the design of UI, presentations, and holistic visual concepts.

Commitment and industry experience

Student representation on the faculty council

As a student representative, I actively participate in university committees and represent the interests of the students.

AStA Chair

In the AStA of HBK Essen, I volunteer to advocate for the interests of students and support the student community. I am involved in organizing events and contribute my design knowledge to the creation of communication and information materials.

Gamescom

Exhibition and support

As part of Gamescom, I supported the stand of HBK Essen and presented my own project PizzaRun!. In doing so, I was able to gain insights into communication with visitors*, the presentation of games and the exchange within the games industry.

Serious Play Conference Europe

Volunteer

As a volunteer at the Serious Play Conference, I supported the execution of the event. In doing so, I gained exciting insights into the field of serious games and the diverse possibilities of using games for education and social issues.

Indie Hub

Volunteer graphic designer

I support the Indie Hub on a voluntary basis in the field of graphic design. In this process, I create visual content and communication materials for events and projects from the indie game scene.

Scholarships and grants

My work and commitment have been supported by various grants:

Partial scholarship from HBK Essen
Through a partial scholarship from the Essen University of Fine Arts, I receive a subsidy of 50% of the tuition fees.

Germany Scholarship
I was awarded the Germany Scholarship for the winter semester of 2025/26 and the summer semester of 2026.

Playtesting

In addition to developing my own projects, I was also able to gain experience in the field of playtesting. By testing games in development, I gained insights into professional development processes and the importance of player feedback for improving gameplay and gaming experience.
